Collective Action: Overcoming Eco-Anxiety Together

At The Carbon Company, we’re working to alleviate eco-anxiety.

Understanding Eco-Anxiety

In today's world, eco-anxiety, a distress triggered by concerns about climate change and its ongoing impacts, is a palpable reality. People with eco-anxiety have various emotional responses ranging from fear and anger to sadness and guilt. They often feel the weight of these challenges resting solely on their shoulders, and this can exacerbate the emotional burden and intensify the distress experienced.

You’re Not Alone

If you're experiencing eco-anxiety, it’s important to know you're not alone. The scale of environmental challenges can indeed be daunting, and the pressure to single-handedly solve global issues can feel overwhelming.

It’s helpful to take a breath and understand the solution to climate change doesn't depend solely on your individual actions. The solution depends instead on our Collective Power. Shifting the focus from solitary efforts to collective action is empowering because it lets us - as citizens of the world - control the narrative rather than being controlled by those with a vested interest in the status quo (such as being pressured to measure personal carbon footprints rather than industries delivering systemic change). By working together, we can use our collective voices, votes, and spending to influence systemic change.

The Collective Solution

Creating a Collective Solution is why we started The Carbon Co. We believe in making it incredibly simple for anyone to make an impact doing what they already do today. We believe in using our combined voices (advocacy), votes (policy), and spending (economies) to create the force required to break the status quo and establish a new path toward a better climate future.

The Time Is Right

Fortunately, the stars are aligned to improve the world and to reduce eco-anxiety:

  1. Carbon-free energy from modern sources such as solar and wind are now the lowest cost energy. With this economic advantage, we can push to prioritize investments in carbon-free energy and the infrastructure required to make this a reality and deprioritize investments and subsidies for traditional energy sources (oil, natural gas, coal) that continue polluting the atmosphere.

  2. Most people WANT to talk about climate change. Individuals from all backgrounds have a desire to share their questions, feelings, and concerns about climate change. The challenge is that most people are worried about starting the conversation. This gives us an opportunity to begin more conversations and share more feelings by simply asking about a person’s thoughts on climate change and sharing our own story. (Here’s an approach we like.)

  3. We now have simple ways to achieve collective impact. For example, The Carbon Company and our partners are working to ensure people can make an impact doing what they already do today. Having a growing impact means we can also reduce eco-anxiety. So let’s work together to create an environment where we can all be part of a collective solution. Come join us.

Our Strength In Togetherness

The answer to eco-anxiety is creating collective power rather than individual pressure. Together, we can influence policies, support sustainable practices, and encourage industries and governments to prioritize sustainability. This solidarity and cooperation are essential to addressing the complex challenges posed by climate change.

Together, we can make a real, systemic impact, one that transcends individual efforts and becomes a collective force. You’re not alone in this journey. Let's navigate it together and find hope, empowerment, and resilience in our shared quest for a healthier planet.
